James J. Carollo, Ph.D., P.E.

James Carollo, Ph.D., P.E. is a biomedical engineer who has developed and managed clinical motion analysis laboratories for over 35 years. Since 1998, he has served as the Director and original designer of the Center for Gait and Movement Analysis (CGMA) at Children’s Hospital Colorado, the first and only accredited motion analysis facility in Colorado. Since 2006 he has also served as the Director of the Musculoskeletal Research Center (MRC) in the Orthopedics Institute at Children’s Hospital Colorado, an interdisciplinary program providing clinical research support and infrastructure to pediatric orthopedic faculty members at the institution. He holds academic appointments in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Orthopedics, and Bioengineering at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Center. He has been a CMLA Board member since 2003, serving two terms as President. In 2017, Dr. Carollo was honored as the inaugural chairholder of the J. T. Tai Endowed Chair for the Center for Gait and Movement Analysis.

His current work focuses on understanding the relationship between walking ability and the risk for future health conditions in cerebral palsy and developing novel measurement procedures and devices that expand the reach of human performance measurement beyond the laboratory.
